Flea, Tick, and Chigger Control
TLC Lawn Care, Inc.
As a full service lawn care company we can handle all your outdoor needs.

In the Kansas City area, flea, tick, and chigger season typically runs from April through September, with peak activity in the hot, humid months of July and August. Our six-step program provides consistent protection by reapplying treatments every 4–6 weeks to account for the residual life of the insecticide. These applications will also take care of aphids, armyworms, cutworms, sod webworms, chinch bugs, and many, many other surface turf pests.
· Step 1: Early-Spring "Wake Up" (April) As temperatures rise, ticks and fleas emerge from leaf litter. We will apply a broad-spectrum insecticide to the turf, focusing on the lawn’s edges where high grass meets woods, as 80% of ticks are often found within 3 yards of this boundary.
· Step 2: Late-Spring Preventative (May)This application targets the first major "bloom" of pests. Chiggers become active in late April/early May in Kansas.
· Step 3: Early-Summer Barrier (June) In June, flea and chigger populations begin to multiply rapidly in the KC humidity. We will use a combination of granular and liquid materials during this phase to ensure deep penetration into the thatch layer where larvae hide.
· Step 4: Mid-Summer Peak Protection (July) This is the most critical step as heat reaches its maximum. We will apply a high-residual insecticide to prevent "outbreaks" during the hottest weeks.
· Step 5: Late-Summer Reinforcement (August) Flea populations typically peak in August. To break the life cycle, we will use an insect growth regulator during this step to prevent immature larvae from reaching adulthood.
· Step 6 Fall Transition (September/Early October) The final application protects against the late-season surge of ticks, such as the Blacklegged Deer Tick which can remain active through the first frost. This step ensures you don't bring hitchhiking pests into your home as you spend more time outdoors in the cooler fall weather.
Pro Tip
Pro Tip: For the best results in Kansas City, keep your grass mowed to a height of 3.5–4 inches and remove leaf piles and brush, which serve as the primary breeding grounds for these biters.
