History

Oscar G. Lee: A retired Oklahoma police chief, Lee purchased large tracts of land in the 1920s, laying the groundwork for the city and earning its name. In 1948, the city of Leawood was incorporated. Post-war, folks wanted out of the city—big homes, bigger lawns. By 1955, it hit the map.
